Muscat: More than 40 people were killed Sunday after a Russian passenger jet making an emergency landing in Moscow touched down and burst into flames.
A statement issued by Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport, said: “Sheremetyevo International Airport together with Aeroflot with deep regret confirm the information about the death of passengers of flight SU1492 as a result of an accident with the aircraft on May, 5 at Sheremetyevo Airport.
“The management and staff of the airport and airlines perceived as the personal tragedy of flight SU1492 Moscow-Murmansk. Aeroflot and Sheremetyevo will provide all-round assistance to the relatives and friends of the dead and injured.”
The Russian-made Sukhoi Superjet was carrying 78 people, careened across the runway at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport with thick, black smoke pouring out from behind after making an emergency landing in Moscow.
