Muscat: Omantel, the Sultanate’s first telecom provider, was a proud partner of the Muscat Football Academy (MFA) youth teams as they competed in the Dubai Super Cup held recently at Dubai’s The Sevens Stadium.
Nine teams represented the academy across a spectrum of age categories and competed against some of the world’s leading youth football teams. Three MFA teams, the under-8 A, under-8 B and under-19 team, were crowned champions in their respective competitions. Other MFA teams also recorded stellar performances, with efforts taking them to semi and grand finals.
Commenting on Omantel’s partnership with Muscat Football Academy, Hamdan Moosa Al Harasi, acting VP Corporate Strategy at Omantel, said: “It is a pleasure to see MFA reaping the fruits of their hard work at international competitions like the Dubai Super Cup. At Omantel, the development of youth talent is an area particularly close to our heart, as it is today’s youth that will represent the Oman of tomorrow. Supporting organisations such as the Muscat Football Academy demonstrates our commitment towards promoting Oman on the world stage, and encouraging the sport to youth in Oman.
"During 2015, Omantel invested a total of OMR 2 million in a number of community support initiatives, sporting events and CSR programmes.”
Commenting on the MFA’s performance during the four-day tournament, head coach Chuck Martini noted: “From the moment they boarded the airplane, the boys behaved and performed like true professionals. It was an honour to see their determination and smiles as they thrived against some of the top teams from around the world in front of admiring fans. Their performance was truly a credit to the MFA and showcases the wonderful talent we have on offer here in Oman.”
“All teams must be congratulated for their efforts and wonderful performances however the highlight of the tournament belonged to the youngest members of MFA who were competing in their first high caliber international tournament. The two under-8 teams rose to the challenge and the young stars were victorious in both the under-8 Challenge Cup and the under-8 Trophy.”
“A special mention must also go to our under-19 youth team who, after their win, are now the reigning champions for two years running. I was also very proud of the under-16 team and under-10 teams that both competed in the grand finals of their competitions and the under-12 team that reached the semifinal. A special thanks must go to our chief sponsor Omantel who have long since backed Muscat Football Academy and supported the children to fulfill their dreams,” added Chuck Martini.
