Cybersecurity event aims at boosting entrepreneurs’ skills

Muscat: A virtual cybersecurity programme aimed at supporting fresh entrepreneurs’ ideation by equipping them with the necessary commercial and technological knowledge to go through the business market efficiently concluded on Monday.

The SAS Accelerator for Cybersecurity’s 2nd cohort, was organised by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and IT through its SAS Centre for Entrepreneurship and partnership with the UK-Oman Digital Hub CyLon Spark, PDO, and Oman National CERT.

The 2nd cohort saw six ideas; their owners participated over 12 weeks, starting from January 18, 2021, until April 5, 2021.

They saw 25 sessions and lectures, which stressed the best approaches for startup growth. Additionally, the participants benefited from 60 hours of virtual individual consultation sessions given by 15 speakers and mentors specialised in cybersecurity consisted of 12 international ones and three from the Sultanate.

The final day for the 2nd cohort included an investment demo. The participants showcased their projects, varying from security risks assessment tools, cyber threat detection tools, and security exploits fix commonly known in software, content creation in cybersecurity to training platform for preventing phishing.  

Cylon Spark is an initiative established by Cylon accelerator for ideas generated by individuals, not current companies.
Cylon is also a global Cybersecurity accelerator. It is based on developing and investing in the best cybersecurity new projects around the world.

Additionally, Cylon works in many parts of the world, from London to Singapore, and joint connecting cybersecurity companies and a Major community of clients, investors, and experts.

Since its establishment in 2015,” the 400-million-pounds market value” Cylon accelerator has supported more than 100 companies.

The companies graduating from this accelerator earned more than 150 million pounds from continuous financing. Additionally, it generated more than 350 jobs.

The partnership between SAS centre for entrepreneurship and the UK-Oman Digital Hub is based on the growing reputation of Oman in Cybersecurity and the prominent role of Cylon Spark in the cybersecurity industry.

This programme connects the SAS centre for entrepreneurship with a Global accelerator in cybersecurity and accessing a selection of international mentors and experts to encourage the fabrication of cybersecurity products locally and globally.
