Muscat: The Environment Authority plans to plant seeds of wild trees and spread them in pastoral areas in the governorate to take advantage of the frequent rains in the Khareef season.

Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Sairi, Director General of the General Directorate of Environment in Dhofar Governorate, said: “The seed dispersal initiative was launched by the authority in conjunction with the national initiative project to "cultivate 10 million trees of Omani wild plants" to benefit from the amount of rainwater that the region witnesses during the Khareef season."

Al Saiari added: “The seeds will be sown in mid-June in some fenced places and open spaces in the pastoral areas along the mountain strip of the Governorate of Dhofar, in cooperation with a number of volunteer teams, the local community, and governmental and private institutions, and in coordination with the Department of Nature and Wildlife Conservation in the Directorate.”

He pointed out that the General Directorate of Environment in Dhofar Governorate, in cooperation with the volunteer and civil teams, has started the stage of collecting seeds to be ready and available at the specified time for the date of their propagation, as coordination meetings were held with the participants in the initiative, which is implemented for the first time in the governorate.
