We will not resort to mediators to obtain COVID-19 vaccine: Minister

Muscat: Ministry of Health is in contact with Russian government to obtain the Sputnik-V vaccine to fight Covid-19 after the manufacturer evaded from fulfilling the contract, His Excellency  Dr. Ahmed Al Saeedi said on Thursday.

“The problem with getting vaccinations is not because of financial resources but the inability of companies to produce enough vaccines and the monopoly by some countries, Al Saeedi said.

”The Russian vaccine was registered a few days ago, and there is a contract with the manufacturer of Sputnik-V vaccine , but after they were registered, unfortunately, there was a kind of evasion of fulfilling the supply according to what we requested,” he said while speaking at the annual ceremony of Al-Sharqia University:

”Therefore the Russian ambassador was present yesterday at the ministry, in addition to the efforts of the Foreign Ministry for dialogue with the Russian government to obtain more than 100,000 doses of Russian vaccine. We will not resort to mediators to obtain the vaccine,” he added.
