While cleaning and decluttering our home is part of our daily life, now with this extra time that you are getting owing to the night lockdown it is time to review your home, especially your wardrobes ... the perfect place to begin your decluttering When it comes to your clothes decluttering gets all the more daunting and difficult as you are all emotionally attached with your clothes and getting rid of them is bound to make you feel guilty and sad as well.
Your wardrobe has clothes of many kinds ... some that you have hardly worn, some that you do not want to give away, and some that you have outgrown but still store in the hope to fit into them once again. So you don’t know where to start. Whatever the reason be, remember that if you truly want to have a neat and organised wardrobe you need to keep your emotional attachment aside and get a bit ruthless.
Sort out the clothes that you want to keep and those that you don’t wear anymore. After all, the benefits of a smaller, simplified wardrobe are plenty. It helps you to get dressed quicker, easier, with fewer decisions and less stress. So get ready and clear the clutter from your wardrobe.
Start by setting a limit for the number of dresses you actually want to keep. Might be a tough call but no harm in trying, isn’t it?
To simplify your job you can actually keep a set number of hangers and that way you get to limit your clothes accordingly. You can also categorise the clothing according to your requirements and preferences.
Another way to make decluttering easier is to keep track of all the clothes that you have not worn, say in the last 6 months. If you did not use them in six months time, most likely you won’t be using them again. This list should not include the seasonal wear.
In fact the easiest way to differentiate between what to keep and what not to, is to separate your closet into two sections, one side for clothes that you regularly wear and one side for those that you rarely wear or rather don’t wear at all. Alongside maintain a declutter box where you regularly stock clothes that have remained idle in the ‘ rarely wear’ section. Ensure that you store holiday clothes, special occasion attire and seasonal clothes away from your everyday wardrobe – those that get worn once a year. Also look for clothes you are bored with.
While all these might sound difficult, the truth is decluttering your wardrobe now will not only give you more wardrobe space but also when the pandemic is over you can shop for the trendy clothes to your heart’s content and you’ll have that much desired space for your future shopping.
