MoCIIP stamps above 45,000 kilos of precious metals in 2020

Muscat: The total quantity of bullion, gold, silver and platinum artifacts that were stamped during the year of 2020, reached 45,853 kilograms, according to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP).

The Ministry said in a statement that the quantities of golden jewellery and ornaments that were imprinted in the Laboratory of  Precious Metals Laboratory of   the  Directorate General  for Standards and Metrology during 2020 included  precious, semi-precious stones, precious metals and ordinary metals that are clad with a crust of precious metals, and natural or industrial pearl products, traditional jewellery and coins.

The Ministry plays a major role in controlling precious metals and precious stones in order to curb illegal practices and to protect consumers and merchants from fraud whether by foreign parties or by workshop  employees. It encourages the manufacture of precious metals and their preservation  as part of the Sultanate’s legacy.
