Oman Cables completes installation of revolutionary technology empowered by Nama Group

Muscat: Oman Cables Industry has completed the installation of the AIRBAG™ SuperDry cable system Made in Oman. The project at Jalan Bani Bu Ali, located in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate region extends along the coastal strip of the Arabian Sea. The cable has been installed in Al Ashkharah town where the complex and rare ecological conditions that exist are defined as highly rough and characterful.

AIRBAG™ is a protection cable system with a layer between the cores and external sheath that works as a shock absorber. The deformation generated by the impact is absorbed by the AIRBAG™ layer that works as a system to provide a very effective defence against impact.

AIRBAG™ SuperDry is the result of the unique partnership between Oman Cables & Nama Group to meet the challenges of the very specific project requirements. The extensive research & development process carried out in the recent months has been in close cooperation with Nama Group to create a cable technology addressing the precise requirement of installation in special environment conditions close to a coastal area with high salinity.

The long-standing relationship with the local manufacturer has brought Nama Group and its respected subsidiaries; Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), Mazoon Electricity Company (MZEC), Muscat Distribution Company (MEDC), Majan Electricity Company (MJEC), Dhofar Electricity Company (DPC) and Tanweer, to be a great supporter for Oman Cables’ exclusive technologies that enable the reliability of its energy network. The increasing longevity and safety of cable system assets have a wide impact from the economy to people, businesses and communities and hence result in consequential added value to the people of Oman.

Oman Cables has also supplied ALESEA (IoT Solution for Cable Management) on a pilot project with Mazoon Electricity and Distribution Company (MZEC), a member of Nama Group, with Oman being the first GCC country to implement the solution presenting the group’s direction towards digitalisation of its assets.

ALESEA is able to provide full inventory management service while contributing to reducing the total cost of cable management, through better asset use and greater operating efficiency while lessening the impact on the environment through optimised logistics and keeping the cable waste and scrap to a minimum.

“As an Omani manufacturer, our strategy has been enhanced to meet Nama Group’s vision on innovation. This includes not only cable solutions but equally transformative services that address existing challenges.” Antonio Chiantore, Chief Commercial Officer, Oman Cables Industry SAOG.

Matching visions have also created In-Country Value opportunities with a successful example on local training programs conducted at Numo training institute, a member of Nama Group, for Omani graduates. Oman Cables is pleased to be part of the ongoing achievements and has further upcoming plans of creating a Training Academy in cooperation with Nama Group specialising in cable jointing works.

The above success cases confirm the strength of Nama Group’s strategy in line with Oman’s 2040 vision and clear evidence of Nama as an innovative company supporting local manufacturers to grow their potential through the provision of infrastructure where it can exploit Omani core skills and assets to create value.
