Muscat: The registration of work contracts in the private sector does not affect the worker's eligibility to compete for government jobs, the Ministry of Labour clarified on Tuesday.

A statement issued online by the Ministry said, "The Ministry of Labour noticed that applicants for jobs in the private sector refrained from registering work contracts due to fear of not being able to compete for public sector jobs. The Ministry reminds citizens that public sector jobs are open to all, and workers in the private sector are entitled to compete for them."

"The Ministry affirms that it is mandatory to register work contracts in order to protect the rights and duties of the worker and the employer, and years of service are recorded in the workforce registry as a practical experience that gives preference while looking for better opportunities," the statement added.
