Oman ranks second at Arab countries’ level in sustainable tourism index

Brussels: Oman has been ranked second at the Arab countries’ level and 57th at the world level in Sustainable Tourism Index 2020, according the report of Euromonitor International Research Corporation.

Jordan secured the first place, United Arab Emirates came third and Tunisia was placed fourth at tghe Arab countries’ level. Sweden came in first followed by Estonia in the second place at the world level.

Euromonitor has rated 99 tourism destinations in terms of environment, social and economic sustainability, the country risk, the demand for sustainable tourism , transport and residence.

The global coronavirus pandemic has shed light on clear defects in the traditional tourism models which are no longer suitable for the new pandemic era, said Euromonitor International Research Corporation.

Researchers of Euromonitor International Research Corporation said that they have developed a new index for travel sustainability with the support of travel firms with the aim to transform into a more sustainable model.

The future and success of travel business would be based on digital transformation, they added.
