5 things to do in Oman this weekend

People in Oman are looking forward to a three-day weekend starting today, March 11, the day being a holiday. While we need to be strictly cautious of the COVID-19 protocols, it shouldn’t deter us from having a relaxing long break. So put your concerns aside, strictly adhere to the COVID-19 safety guidelines, and make the best of this long weekend.

Home is where heart is
If you are staying home with the family this weekend, don’t get disheartened thinking that there isn’t much to do at home. From trying a new recipe, organising your wardrobe and having a spa-like session at home to hosting a virtual party or catching up with the new OTT releases, there are plenty of ways to keep yourself entertained when at home.

OTT  entertainment
Netflix has ‘Bombay Rose’ (2019), a Netflix original. The new TV series to watch out for are ‘Bombay Begums (Season 1)’, ‘Star Beam (Season 3)’, and the ‘Houseboat’. Other not to miss movies are ‘Yes Day’, starring Jennifer Garner. This family film is about kids who get a pass to do whatever they want as the parents can’t refuse any request. ‘Paradise (Season 3)’, releasing on March 12 is an animated sitcom series about an unconventional police department where the show began by following the rookie cop joining the beat. ‘Bombay Begums’ that released on March 8 features an ensemble cast, including Pooja Bhatt, Shahana Goswami, Amruta Subhash, and others. Don’t miss this female-centric series.

Movies in theatres
But what if you are quite weary of staying at home? There is nothing like watching a movie on the big screen. This week watch ‘Roohi’ in theatres starring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor. It is a horror-comedy about two small-town boys, who come across ‘Roohi’. Due to strange circumstances both the boys are stuck with Roohi in a forest.   Other Hollywood movies worth watching  are ‘Safer at Home’, ‘Knuckledust’, and ‘Chaos Walking’. ‘The Priest’ in  Malayalam starring Manju Warrier, Mammootty and Sreenath Bhasi is about a priest and a police officer who are trying to solve a set of mysterious suicides. As their investigation closes in, they discover another crime with even farther-reaching consequences.

Staycations beckon
Spend a day in one of the staycations in town with all the COVID-19 safety measures and the rules issued by the Supreme Committee.

Art and soul
If you are an art lover, visit an art presentation at Art & Soul Gallery, WaterFront Mall, Muscat that is showcasing the works of Tarini Agarwal and Sarah Milroy Thompson. This collection of work celebrates the Omani women and their vibrant role in the social and economic growth of the country. The presentation that started on March 8 would run till March 19, from 10am-7pm, Saturday to Thursday and 4-7pm on Friday.
So get ready to have a relaxing yet fun-filled weekend that you would certainly not like to waste at any cost. Don’t just spend it by remaining slumped on the couch.
