Talking to Times of Oman, Amr Abdullah Baabood, CEO of OITE spoke of his pride in the event and his hopes for the future of it.
“Comex 2019 is bigger than last year which we are proud of and we believe that it should increase every year.
“Last year we had about 23,000 visitors attending the event but this year we are aiming for more than 25,000 visitors, and we are pretty sure we are going to reach that target given the interest that we have seen at the event and the attractions we have added.
“Even the booths are much bigger than last year; that is a sign of the confidence of the exhibitors investing in their brand and in Oman. They and we are sure that this technology will do well in Oman.”
Speaking about the theme, ‘Digitalising the Future’, Baabood said that the main idea behind it is to encourage the use of technology that will help in the workplace.
“The reason behind the theme this year is that we are trying to involve various industries and sectors in Oman to try and add some kind of technology into their work whether its tourism, mining, oil and gas.
“There is a lot of technology out there internationally and we are trying to bring that into Oman to try and increase efficiency and productivity,” Baabood added.
Besides local companies, firms from Canada, USA, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Jordan, India, Singapore, Japan, France, Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Germany and Spain are displaying products at the expo.
To keep up with the ever-evolving tech scenario, Comex brings to light dynamic segments that generate business success in the digital economy. The key highlights of this year are Comex Business, e-Oman, and the e-Lifestyle segments.
“The main attraction for visitors this time could be the Augmented reality (AR)/Virtual reality (VR) technology outlets. Moreover, cyber hackathon has been organised for the first time this year, and the world famous and biggest gaming company, Unity, has also set up their booth in the gaming area at Comex 2019,” said Ashit Barnes, Director of Exhibitions and Events at OITE.
