Muscat: Taeeb Akram, CEO and Secretary General of the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) reaffirmed that the future of hockey in the Sultanate was remarkably promising as the Sultanate is a leading state in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and other countries in hockey sport.
He also pointed that the Sultanate is ranked 27 at the international level out of 137 member states of the Asian Hockey Federation.
He said to ONA, “The Sultanate is capable of securing more advanced place as it maintains appropriate basic structure and is heading on the right track.”
“At the Asian Hockey Federation, we are relentlessly working on development of the sport and we stand by the side of any country interested in development of the sport as part of our view in further development of hockey,” he said, adding that “we have seen such interest and keenness in the officials concerned with hockey in the Sultanate.”
|”What distinguishes hockey in Oman is the relation between the clubs and Oman Hockey Association and that the clubs receive direct support from the government,” he said.
“The Asian Hockey Federation is currently working with Oman Hockey Association on a training syllabus on hockey sport for schools,” he said
“Asian Hockey Federation is ready to support Oman Hockey Association in the issue of hockey coaches,” he further added.
He also pointed to that Oman is capable of hosting major championships.
