February sees nearly 27% increase in COVID-19 deaths

Muscat: Almost 27 per cent more people died from COVID-19 in February 2021, as compared to the previous month, according to Ministry of Health figures.

Oman had reported 1,570 deaths from COVID-19 as of February 28, up from 1,529 in January, which means 41 people passed away from the disease last month.

However, COVID death figures at the end of December 2020 stood at 1,499, which means 30 people sadly lost their lives to the virus in January of this year. The increase in deaths points to a 26.8 per cent jump in casualties from the coronavirus.

According to the Ministry of Health, 142,169 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Oman as of March 2, 2021. 132,945 people have recovered, which leads to a recovery rate of 94 per cent. 19 people have been admitted to hospital with COVID symptoms over the last 24 hours.

Additionally, some 70 patients are being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care at hospitals around the country. 198 people in total have been taken to hospital for the virus since the start of the pandemic.

According to the ministry’s Tarassud coronavirus monitoring app, some 571,472 people have been so far tested for the disease.
