Muscat: The Population Division of the United Nations has commended the Sultanate’s efforts in implementing the electronic census 2020.

A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA), said: "The Population Division of the United Nations commends the Sultanate’s efforts in implementing the Electronic Census 2020 and the speed of publishing its results in record time, despite the exceptional circumstances that befell the world in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic."

Commenting on the recognition, Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al-Barwani, Chief Executive of the National Center for Statistics and Information, Chairman of the Technical Committee for the Census Project said: " The census results were approved and published in less than 48 hours from the reference date set on December 12, 2020."

He said in a statement to the Oman News Agency, "The Sultanate has provided a pioneering model to be emulated at the regional and international levels in the experience of moving from traditional field censuses to administrative records within a short period."

"The electronic census 2020 was able to build a large and sustainable central statistical data system that links the various databases of government and private agencies, which will enable the implementation of a census of population, housing and establishments in the future at any time and with the least human effort and at a limited financial cost."
