Draft Omani Penal Law gets approval

Muscat: State Council approved the draft Omani Penal Law on Wednesday, which was referred to it by the Council of Ministers.
In response to the Royal Orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the State Council and Majlis Al Shura will hold a joint session today (Thursday) under the chairmanship of Dr. Yayha bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council to consider and approve the articles on which there are disagreements between Majlis Al Shura and the State Council with relation to the proposed amendments on the draft income tax law, the draft foreign investment law and the draft insurance companies law.
The State Council’s 10th session of the 1st annual sitting of the 6th term was held under the chair of Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of State Council.
The Council also approved the reports of Majlis Al Shura and the State Council’s Legal Committee on the same after introducing the required amendments based on the outcomes of the detailed discussions and inputs by members.
During the session, honourable members of the State Council reviewed some reports on members’ foreign participation. It also reviewed some incoming letters and the report of the Secretariat General on the activities of the Council during the period between the 7th and 8th sessions.
Meanwile, the Legislative and Legal Committee of the Majlis held a meeting in the presence of Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma’awali, Chairman of Majlis Al Shura and Khalid bin Ahmed Al Sa’eedi, Deputy Head of the Committee.
The Committee discussed draft amendments to the Marine Fishing Law and Protection of Aquatic Resources Law issued by the Royal Decree No. 53/81, which has 31 articles distributed onto six parts.
The Marine Fishing Law and Protection of Aquatic Resources Law covers all activities related to marine fishing and water wealth in the Sultanate.
