Muscat: Omanisation plans for the communications and information technology sector, challenges facing employment of nationals in the sector and training of job-seekers were discussed at a meeting between government and industry representatives.
The meeting was held by Sheikh Nasser bin Showain Al Hosni, Undersecretary for labour at the Ministry of Labour, in the presence of Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shizani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, with human resources managers of Human Resources in the private sector.
Sheikh Al Hosni pointed to that the Ministry was relentlessly seeking cooperation with the various sectors on identifying the challenges facing these sectors and for providing solutions which contribute to Omanisation and replacement.
He said that “the challenges the Ministry faces in the field of Omanisation in some establishments of the private sector necessitate the significance of holding effective dialogue to reach the targeted objectives”.
He also pointed to that COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to the growth of the transport, communications and information technology sectors, which enabled the Ministry to identify the key legislations required for these sectors.
Dr. Amer Al Shizani Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology pointed to the role the Ministry of Labour plays in regulating the labour market.
He said that the communications and information technology sector was vital for other sectors of the economy. The meeting discussed proposals of the participants on acceleration of Omanisation and replacement of expatriates with nationals and on initiation of mechanisms which help graduates of information technology and communications develop their technical skills to cope with the developments in the labour market.
