Bakery in Oman fined for price hike
Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority has imposed an administrative fine against a bakery in North Al Batinah Governorate.
A statement issued online by CPA said: "The Consumer Protection Authority represented by the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah imposed an administrative fine against a bakery in the wilayat of Sohar for reducing the number of loaves of bread in one bag while fixing its previous price."
The Authority also said:"The matter which is an indirect price hike and fraud on the consumer and thus violates the law and Resolution No. (12/2011) regarding the prohibition of raising the prices of goods and services except after the approval of the Authority and the necessary legal measures have been taken against it."
"The authority calls on all suppliers, shopkeepers and bakery owners not to reduce the weight of any product below the previous weight and quantity and not to display any commodity with a lower weight without obtaining its approval, noting that violating this exposes the owner to legal accountability. " the statement added
