Muscat: The Environment Authority has monitored the presence of a sand cat in Dhofar Governorate.
A statement issued online by the Environment Authority said: "Wildlife monitors at the General Directorate of the Environment in Dhofar Governorate were able to monitor and document the presence of the sand cat in sands of Empty Quarter (Rub Al Khali) in the Wilayat of Muqshin in the Dhofar Governorate, using a camera trap."
The Environment Authority added: "This documentation of the rare sand cat is a first for its presence in the sands of the Empty Quarter in the Dhofar Governorate, after it was previously documented in the sands of Al Sharqiyah Governorate and Al Dhahirah Governorate."
"It is worth noting that this animal is active at night to search for food like rodents, insects, lizards and birds," the statement added.
