Oman’s electricity generation fell by 2.6% until end of November 2020

 Muscat: Oman’s total electricity production until the end of November 2020 fell by 2.6 per cent to reach 35,540.9GW per hour compared to the same month in 2019, when the total production was 36,506.5GW per hour.

Meanwhile, water production until the end of October 2020 increased by 6.5 per cent to reach 396.83 million cubic metres compared to 372.57 million cubic metres in the same period in 2019, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The total electricity production in the governorates of Al Batinah and A’Dhahirah reached 22,251.1GW per hour until the end of November 2020, recording an average increase of 1.1 per cent over the same period in 2019, when the production was 21,998.2 GW per hour. The total electricity production in A’Sharqiyah reached 7,854.0GW per hour compared to an output of 7,787GW last year, recording a decline of 0.9 per cent.

Total electricity production in the Governorate of Dhofar also decreased by 4.6 per cent by the end of the 11-month period of 2019, reaching 3,506.5GW per hour compared to 2019, when it amounted to 3,674.4GW per hour.

The net figures are inclusive of purchases by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC) from local power generating entities, as well as output from auto-generators and diesel rental units.

The Sultanate’s net electricity production until the end of November 2020 witnessed a drop of 2.1 per cent to touch 34,677.2GW per hour compared to 35,410.7GW per hour achieved during the prior year period.

As per the NCSI data, the governorates of Al Batinah and A’Dhahirah topped the list of governorates with the highest net electricity production, reaching 21,666.9GW per hour from 21,270.9GW per hour in 2019. A’Sharqiyah ranked second, reaching 7,664.3GW per hour by end of November 2020 compared to 7,608.9GW in 2019. A decrease also in electricity production was recorded in Dhofar by 4.2 per cent.

On the other hand, the water production of the Sultanate reached 396.830 million cubic metres until the end of October 2020, an increase of 6.5 per cent from the end of October 2019, when it was 372.575 million cubic metres, the data revealed.

In Muscat, the water production rose by 4.4 per cent to reach 171.803 million cubic metres in the 10-month period of 2020 compared to 164.486 million cubic metres in 2019. Water production also rose in the Governorate of Dhofar by 5.5 per cent to reach 52.86 million cubic metres at the end of October 2020 compared to at the end of October 2019, when the production was 50.119 million cubic metres.

The total water production of other governorates at the end of October 2020 was 172.163 million cubic metres, a rise of 9 per cent from the end of October 2019, when the production reached 157.969 million cubic metres.
