We Love Oman: Geological wonders of Wadi Al Mayh

Located in Al Amerat is Wadi Al Mayh which can certainly be called a geological wonder.  From the breathtaking natural beauty of the landscape to flowers, date palms, trees of lemons, mangoes and pomegranate, along with streams of fresh water, this picturesque place is certainly a tourist's delight.

According to Oman's Ministry of Tourism, "Wadi Mayh is a long valley that lies between Yiti and Sifah, along the highway to Quriyat. In the western part of the valley,  an enormous mountain range that appears to have been naturally engraved with many layers created during different geological periods. Now, it looks like a massive display of rock art. This picturesque landscape is dotted with small streams and pools of fresh water, which are an intense turquoise blue in colour. Two villages are conveniently situated on the edge of the wadi in the middle of the valley."

Tucked away between the mountains is the village that has several archaeological and geological sites. It also has tombs, old houses and some examples of ‘rock art’. As you reach Wadi Al Mayh  you can see an open plain surrounded by high mountains. The towering limestone cliffs form a canyon and the multicoloured layers of rock makes it more appealing.
