Muscat: People in Beijing are being tested for COVID-19 using anal swabs, according to global media reports.
Medical experts in China say the test is a more accurate way of detecting the presence of the virus in people.
According to state-run news channel CCTV, the tests are reserved for those likely to have a higher risk of COVID. While people have been asked to come forward and get themselves tested, random testing among people in the capital and other cities is also being conducted.
Doctors say the case can increase the likelihood of catching the disease in people, because there is a possibility of the virus residing in the excretory and digestive tracts longer than the respiratory system.
