Chocolate Cake Day is celebrated on January 27, a day dedicated to the most popular cake flavour. Be it any occasion, chocolate cakes  are bound to take the centrestage. Though we don't know much about how this day originated we still love celebrating this delicious day dedicated to a decadent dessert.

It is said  that the chocolate cake was born in 1765 when] Dr. James Baker and a chocolate maker teamed up in an old mill.  They ground up cocoa beans between huge millstones to make a thick syrup. The liquid was poured into moulds shaped like cakes, which were meant to be transformed into a beverage.

In 1828, Conrad Van Houten of the Netherlands developed a mechanical extraction method for extracting the fat from cacao liquor resulting in cacao butter and the partly defatted cacao, a compacted mass of solids that could be sold as it was “rock cacao” or ground into powder.

Eliza Leslie, a cookbook author  from Philadelphia was perhaps the first to share her chocolate cake recipe in 1847 in The Lady’s Receipt Book.  In her recipe she used chopped chocolates and not the way it is made now.

O. Duff and Sons was the first company to create boxed cake mix in the late 1920s and Betty Crocker, that is popular even today, launched their first dry cake mixes in 1947.
So how do you plan to celebrate Chocolate Cake Day. The answer is simple. Make some delicious chocolate cakes, click pictures, share the pictures as well as the cake and celebrate. As Audrey Hepburn rightly said, " A nice creamy chocolate cake does a lot for a lot of people; it does for me.”
