Muscat: Oman’s international rally driver Hamed Al Wahaibi
will be behind the wheel after a long time. This was announced by the X-world rally championship group (N) leader Hamed Al Wahaibi who said that he will return to support the Oman Automobile Association (OAA) for the successful hosting of the second round of MERC this season.
Oman Sohar International rally which will be held in Muscat region from February 18-20 will witness the return of Al Wahaibi on Skoda Fabia R5 for the first time after a gap of more than nine years when he was last seen in Oman rally championship in 2012.
Al Wahaibi said: “I am delighted to be back again to the rally world during an exceptional season to support the rally in Muscat, and as OAA is organising this event, I have been supporting them and will do so even this time.”
The Omani rally driver added that currently he is undergoing a physical fitness programme to be fully prepared for the rally and the championship. He said that he was working hard on that programme, and will start training on the rally car Skoda Fabia from this week.
Al Wahaibi said that it would not be easy to compete with Qatari rally champion Nasser Al Aattyiah as he has been racing for the last 20 years in different championships like MERC and Dakar rally, and he has been the winner of this championship for almost 15 times. It will be very difficult for us to win the race, but will do our best to be on top , he said.
The Skoda Fabia R5 has been prepared by Motor Tune under the supervision of the Lebanese rally driver Rojer Faghali. Al Wahaibi and his colleagues are aiming to showcase their talent and perform well in this rally.
