Muscat: The Environment Authority has issued a clarification about the high glow of the torch at Liwa Plastic Factory. A statement issued online by the Environment Authority said, "The Environment Authority followed up on what was circulated on some social media about the high glow of the torch in Liwa Plastic Factory, and the Authority would like to clarify the following: The project is in the initial operation stage of its units, and this operation is accompanied by an increase in the glow of the torch until all manufacturing processes in the factory are stabilised, which takes some time.
The torch is considered a safety valve for the work of any petrochemical project to ensure the proper drainage and burning of gases, as the steam is pumped at high pressure into the torch system to ensure complete combustion of gases and the absence of black smoke and this causes the kind of noise that may last for a limited time and then stop."
The authority confirms that it is continuing to assess the situation with the specialists in the project to conduct trial operations and follow up on the environmental impacts resulting from that. The authority also confirms the existence of its technical cadres specialized in fields who are conducting follow-ups of the situation related to the operation around the clock.
