Grace period extended to correct job status of expat workforce

Muscat: The Ministry of Labour announced an extension of the grace period for employers to correct the job status of the expats workforce until January 21.

The Ministry of Labour said, "The announcement comes within the framework of regulating the labour market."

The declaration included amending the occupations of the non-Omani manpower from “Omanized” occupations to other professions in accordance with the requirements of the profession to be filled, amending the occupations of the non-Omani workforce from “suspended” occupations to other professions or vice versa, and permitting the amendment of professions of various professional levels according to the requirements of the desired profession run it.

It also included permitting the amendment and transfer of the data of the expats' manpower from one activity to another in the same establishment in accordance with the requirements of work permits issued, amending the wages of the non-Omani workforce according to the approved work contract, and permitting the transfer of non-Omani manpower services from an employer to another according to established controls and procedures.

The ministry's also allowed the employer to apply for a license to recruit and engage in work for the expats workforce from within the Sultanate in the suspended activities, if the conditions stipulated for the licensing are available also permitted the cancellation the report of worker leaving work after paying the prescribed fees to cancel the report, and the fines resulting from the expiration of the work permit, and exempt from the stipulated period for canceling the report, provided that there is actual work for the worker.
