Muscat: Sixteen persons have been sentenced to three months imprisonment and a fine of OMR 500 for violating the decisions of the Supreme Committee to deal with COVID-19 and 6 months for preparing a place for gambling.
A statement issued online by Public Prosecution said, "A court of first instance (the Criminal Department of the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate has issued a ruling convicting 16 foreign defendants for violating the decisions of the Supreme Committee in charge of examining the mechanism for dealing with developments resulting from the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) by gathering in a residence to play gambling."
"The defendants were arrested while they were meeting together and playing gambling. It was proven that the first accused prepared his residence for gambling, and it was also found that two of them violated the law, residing foreigners, due to their negligence in renewing their residence permits in the country, and a third accused was working outside the scope of his sponsor. It has referred all the accused persons imprisoned to court."
"The court condemned 15 defendants and sentenced them to three months imprisonment and a fine of OMR 500. It also sentenced the first defendant for a misdemeanor of preparing a place for gambling for a period of six months, with the order to deport them from the country and deny them entry to the country, confiscate the seizures, publish the ruling, and close the apartment," the statement added.
