Muscat: Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Rumhi, The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Services Regulatory Authority has issued the approved tariff Regulation for the connection and supply of electricity.
Article 2 of the regulation says, "The provisions of this regulation apply to residential and non-residential electricity service subscribers whose consumption does not exceed 100 megawatt hours per year."
Article 3 says, "The categories of electricity subscribers shall be divided into two categories, namely the residential category and the non-residential category, and the electricity supply tariff for each category shall be applied according to Appendix No.1 attached to this regulation."
Article 4 says, "The tariff for the supply of electricity for residential and non-residential groups is modified according to the following:
1- Residential Category:
A gradual increase in the tariff starting from 2021, to reach an unsupported tariff commensurate with the economic cost of supplying electricity during 2025. Gradual increase in the additional account tariff, starting from 2021, in order to reach an unsupported tariff commensurate with the economic cost of supplying electricity during 2023.
2- Non-residential category:
Tariffs will be gradually raised, starting from 2021, to reach an unsupported tariff commensurate with the economic cost of supplying electricity during 2023.
The Authority shall calculate the changes in the electricity supply tariff before the beginning of each year and publish them no later than the first of December of the preceding year, in accordance with the legally established procedures.
Article 5 states,
"The accounts of citizens who meet the conditions and controls of entitlement to electricity subsidy benefit within the social life system approved by the competent authorities for the deduction percentage determined for them or any other mechanism determined within the social life system for monthly consumption to the limit stipulated in the relevant controls and decisions issued by the competent authorities. The monthly depreciation in excess of the limit stipulated in the controls and decisions shall be calculated according to Appendix No.1 attached to this regulation."
Article 6 states,
The connection to the licensee’s network shall be in accordance with the tariff stipulated in Appendix No. 2 attached to this regulation.
In all cases, non-residential subscribers must comply with all technical requirements according to the Omani electrical specifications and distribution rules to the extent that they apply to them.
