Muscat: The Sultanate’s National Aviation Strategy 2030 is designed to attract local and global companies, a senior official stated on the occasion of Oman Post moving its postal and ASYAD Express operations to Muscat International Airport.
The move, part of a strategic agreement between the two companies was announced yesterday. Optimising national aviation assets is a key component of the National Aviation Strategy 2030 which envisages the creation of Airport Cities complete with specialist economic clusters housing Logistics Gates, Business Gates, and Free Zones in and around airports across the Sultanate.
Oman Post is now among the airport’s newest tenants—in July this year DHL also announced a strategic partnership with Oman Aviation Group for a new storage facility—and will benefit from strategic location and access to a growing economic cluster of specialist firms.
“A key component of the National Aviation Strategy 2030 is attracting local and global companies to establish their operations in the former airport terminal redevelopment zone, part of the future Muscat Airport City, said Rashid Al Aghbari, Executive Director of Airport Cities at Oman Aviation Group.
While making the announcement, Rashid Al Aghbari and Nasser Al Sharji, Acting CEO of Oman Post and ASYAD Express, part of ASYAD Group indicated that the move highlights the rapid transformation of several key sectors of Oman’s economy, including the logistics sector, to improve capabilities, modernise infrastructure, and leverage emerging technologies to align with Oman Vision 2040 objectives for advancing national priorities and facilitating economic diversification.
Expressing his feelings Rashid Al Aghbari said: “We are delighted to welcome Oman Post, the country’s leading postal and logistics services company, to their modern new facility. The company not only connects people and businesses across the Sultanate, but also connects Oman to the rest of the world, and is known for its excellence, innovation, and customer-first approach. The move will allow Oman Post and Asyad Express to achieve greater business integration and growth to the benefit of Oman.”
Nasser Al Sharji stated, “With disruptive technologies and tectonic shifts in global economy, demand, trends and customer expectations are ever-changing; our competitive advantage—as the Sultanate’s leading postal and logistics provider—lies in our ability to remain adaptive and responsive to such market alterations. The agreement with Oman Aviation Group to move the operations of both postal and ASYAD Express to Muscat International Airport marks a new chapter in our journey and allows us to explore airside operations in view of strengthening our logistics capabilities. We continue to move forward with a view to unlocking new opportunities and business growth for us, our partners and customers. This is in alignment with Oman Vision 2040 and the mandate of ASYAD, which focuses on enhancing the economic diversification and private development across transformational industries.”
Oman Aviation Group has been a key driver of both the National Aviation Strategy 2030 and the Air Cargo Strategy and is active in the implementation of many of the strategies’ components. This morning’s announcement is an affirmation of the aviation sector’s enabling role as an economic catalyst for adjacent sectors and supports the national priority of infrastructure modernization and development—including the strategic repurposing of assets at the former airport terminal area—and is another step towards a diversified, sustainable, and competitive economy.
Hamood Al Mahruqi, Lead Real Estate Analyst at Oman Aviation Group explained, “The arrival of innovative, forward-thinking Oman Post and ASYAD Express is a significant achievement which paves the way for logistics growth in Oman. Their new premises will no doubt enhance their offering and allow them to take advantage of business synergies in the aviation ecosystem.”
