Old-world charm lies in Bilad Sayt

This weekend to discover the true essence of Oman, head towards the interiors. Visit Balat Sayt, one of the country’s most picturesque mountain villages. The multi-shaded cultivated terraces built into the mountain is sure to mesmerise you. Walk around the maze of narrow alleyways connecting the mud and stone houses. Stroll around the date palm plantations following the falaj system irrigated by the crystalline waters coming from the mountains.

Bilad Sayt, a fairy tale-like village typical of the Arabian settlements of the past, is one of the most picturesque villages in Oman. Seated at the foot of the Hajar mountain ranges it is certainly one of the most  picturesque places to see in Oman. To reach Bilad Sayt  you can either go from Nizwa, Al Hamra or from Barka, Nakhal and Wadi Bani Awf. As you reach Bilad Sayt the view of the  terraced fields and sun-baked houses will totally mesmerise you.

The closely clustered homes made of mud and stone can be seen from far. The village is surrounded by date palms surrounded by mountains. You can take a  walk around the village and enjoy the panoramic beauty of the village. A walk around Bilad Sayt will reveal the details of the people and their life here, secluded from the rest of the Sultanate.

Bilad Sayt’s old-world charm lies in its cluster of stone-and-mud buildings built like steps along the slope of a hill. A labyrinth of narrow ways connects these blocks, some of which are even two or three storeys high. A tower, now in ruin, stands on top of the hill overlooking the village. Because of its location high in the mountains of the Jabal Shams range, Bilad Sayt enjoys moderate daytime temperatures even in summer.Travellers must check the weather conditions before visiting the place and should avoid during or after the rains as the road is quite steep.
