Minister of Health presides over virtual meeting

Muscat: H.E. Dr Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health, on Wednesday, presided over the virtual expanded meeting that joined the Ministry of Health (MOH)’s Undersecretaries, Directors Generals of Health Services, as well as the Directors of the Sultanate’s hospitals and a number of MOH’s officials. 

MOH said in a statement, "At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister welcomed the attendees and pointed out that this meeting comes within the periodical and consultative meetings aiming at exploring the perspectives of health leaderships in the Sultanate’s Governorates on the health system.

The meeting aimed at highlighting the spectrum of topics related to the progress of health services and performance indicators, as well reviewing challenges faced by the Governorates to support various health services, and resolving difficulties encountered by health institutions.

Furthermore, the meeting reviewed primary health programs in the governorates and the extent to which they were affected by COVID-19 pandemic. It enforced the completion of the work of all health programs, such as maternal and child health, birth spacing, follow-up of cases in diabetes, asthma and elderly health clinics, in addition to conducting examinations for breast cancer early detection and epidemiological investigation of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and other health-promoting programs in the Sultanate, some of which have already been affected by the pandemic.

During the meeting, directorates’ general of health services in the governorates were directed to conduct a comprehensive review to develop and reactivate primary health care programs in line with the procedures of dealing with the COVID- 19 pandemic. An emphasis was made to guide primary health care workers on reviewing health data and reports that reflect the performance of the health system, and direct specialists to benefit from all various means of communication in order to produce a variety of health awareness messages thus reaching largest section of society.

The meeting affirmed that, in light of Covid-19 pandemic circumstances, no interruption in the dispensing medicines in primary health care institutions have been experienced, and that about 90% of chronic diseases patients have received their monthly medications smoothly.

His Excellency and their Undersecretaries addressed with the attendees various relevant administrative and technical health topics, listened to their suggestions, and inquires on the workflow of the Sultanate’s health services.

In the end, the Minister highlighted the necessity for cooperation forward carrying out the work, appraising the sincere efforts exerted by all employees to meet the public interest.
