Muscat: The chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) has praised the Ministry of Labour's decision to open a grace period to correct the work details of expat workers.
HE En Reda Al Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the OCCI praised the decision to provide a grace period to correct the details of the expat workforce working for private sector companies, starting from December 6, 2020 until January 6, 2021, within the framework of regulating the job market. "The decision comes at an important stage in which private sector companies seek to restructure their institutions to mitigate the effects of the Covid 19 crisis, which has cast a shadow over the labor market, and the amendments issued by the Ministry of Labour give a lot of flexibility to each employer and workers," he said.
"We call on all business owners and women to employ the decision to serve the development of work mechanisms in their organizations, and to develop strategies for human capital by investing their skills and abilities and at the same time using innovative technologies to increase the productivity of companies and reduce costs."
The ministry is allowing employers to change job titles and contracts according to the requirements of the licenses issued to them. Also allowed are the transfer of workers within the establishment or from one employer to another according to the controls and procedures announced. Companies can also request the hiring of expat workers from within the Sultanate who are working in suspended occupations or activities.
