Producer price index in Sultanate declines

Muscat: The Sultanate’s Producer Price Index (PPI) fell during the third quarter 2020 by 9.4 per cent compared to the same period in 2019.

The statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI)  showed that the prices of oil and gas products registered a drop of 10.7 per cent while non -oil products fell by 2.5 per cent.

The drop in the prices of oil and gas products is ascribed to the decrease in refined oil products by 24.9 per cent while the drop in the prices of crude oil and natural gas products stood at 8.3 per cent.

The drop in non-oil products is ascribed to the decrease in the prices of the group of  manufacturing industries by 3 per cent while the prices of mining products, electricity and water group fell by one per cent. The prices of mineral products, machinery and equipment decreased by 6.3 per cent and the prices of other movable products dropped by 4.4 per cent.

The products of the group of food, beverages and textile, increased by 4.6 per cent while the prices of fish products, fruits, vegetables and oils increased by 8. 3 per cent and the prices of ready-made garments, textile and shoes increased by 4.4 per cent.
The prices of dairy products dropped by 0.2 per cent while the bakery products and other food products decreased by 0.1 per cent.

The prices of glass , cement and tile products increased by 1.1 per cent, while the raw materials and products of steel and aluminum decreased by  10.2 per cent.
