Muscat: The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman Ameer Ajwad paid a courtesy call on Shaikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council (Upper House) of Oman on November 24, 2020.
He conveyed the felicitation message extended by the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on the appointment of Shaikh Abdulmalik Al Khalili as the Chairman of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad also extended his greetings to the Chairman of the State Council on the historic occasion of the 50th National Day of the Sultanate of Oman which was celebrated on November 18, 2020.
During the interaction Ambassador and the Chairman of the State Council recalled the long-standing friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Oman and discussed ways and means to further promote bilateral cooperation with particular focus on economic collaboration between the two countries.
They also explored areas for collaboration between the Parliament of Sri Lanka and the State as well as Shura Councils of Oman through Sri Lanka-Oman Parliamentary Friendship Association which was established by the Parliament of Sri Lanka in 2016 and by the Shura Council of Oman in 2017 respectively.
The Ambassador recalled the exchange of high level visits by a 10-member delegation from the State Council of Oman to Sri Lanka in 2017 and a Multi-Party Sri Lanka Parliamentary delegation to Oman in 2018.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad extended his gratitude to Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, the predecessor of Shaikh Abdulmalik Al Khalili, for his unwavering support and guidance in promoting bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman.
First Secretary of the Embassy W. D.N.M. Abeyesekra accompanied the Ambassador during the meeting.
