Born on 50th National Day, babies make the day extra memorable for family, hospital

Muscat: Two couples in Oman had an extra-special 50th National Day, and one they will always remember, after they welcomed a baby boy into their lives on 18 November.

Little Hamad was born at 10:29am on National Day, a moment of incomparable joy for the parents, and a rather poignant one for everyone at NMC Hospital Al Hail, where the tiny tot was born.

“It is a matter of great pride for us that our little boy shares his birthday with the National Day of our great nation,” said Hamdan, the baby’s father, who went on to thank God for delivering this bundle of joy to him. “This day has certainly started on the best note possible.”

The joy of welcoming their son into their lives on National Day was very evident, as they thanked the doctors and nursing staff at the hospital. “Delivering a baby on such a proud occasion is an incredible feeling and we are very happy. We wish a happy and a healthy life for this little bundle of joy,” said Dr Addiba Asma, a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist at NMC Al Hail.

Over in Al Ghubra, expat Indian parents Azeez and Najia welcomed a baby girl to their home, after she was delivered at 11:28am on 18 November. “We are very happy that God has blessed us with a healthy baby girl and this is the most precious moment of our lives,” said the girl’s father, Azeez Rahman. “Oman is our second home and we celebrate National Day with as much excitement as our festivals in India. We are very happy to welcome our baby on this National Day.

“Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we are very satisfied with the doctors and nurses who have taken utmost care in treating us and the baby,” he added. “They made sure of following all the guidelines to keep us safe. We wish them best for the noble work they are doing. I feel very happy and honoured. National Day will be another significant day to look forward to.”

Dr Maheswari Rajalingam, obstetrics and gynaecology specialist at NMC Hospital Ghubra said, “It is always a happy time when we bring new life into the world. Having a baby at any time is a joyous occasion, but to have a baby delivered on Oman National Day’s in 2020 is extra special, and we are proud that it happened here. “We are truly honoured to be part of this special moment. We wish the baby and the entire family a happy and healthy future,” she added.

“The families of the newborns were ecstatic, now that they have two reasons to celebrate on this day, with their children coming into the world Oman’s National Day, said Dr Deep Makkar, General Manager, Group NMC Hospitals. “We are pleased to be part of this joyous occasion and strove to make this beautiful journey an unforgettable one for the mothers and their babies’ families.”

To ensure patient, doctor and visitor safety during the time of the pandemic, NMC hospitals in Oman have implemented protocols which put their care at the forefront. Separate areas have been designated for COVID and non COVID patients, while temperature checks are carried out on all patients, doctors and other medical professionals. A rigorous cleaning and sanitisation of all hospital facilities is also conducted.
