CBO issues commemorative coins to celebrate 50 years of Oman’s modern renaissance

Muscat: In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the modern renaissance of Oman, the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) announced the issuance of two silver commemorative coins, marking the illustrious occasion.

The exclusive coins have been issued as an expression of gratitude for the glorious cultural legacy heralded by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said – may his soul rest in eternal peace, and recognition of the ongoing march of a renaissance under His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

The front side of both coins depicts the National Emblem (Coat of Arms & Khanjar), the words (Sultanate of Oman) and (Central Bank of Oman), and the denomination in Arabic and English. While the backside of the coin (A) depicts a portrait of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Sultanate of Oman’s map and a flock of pigeons, and the backside of the coin (B) depicts a portrait of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, a portrait of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, the Sultanate of Oman’s map, Omani flag ribbon and a flock of pigeons.

The Central Bank of Oman stated that distinctive features and specifications are as follows; the face value of each commemorative coin is OMR1, their fineness is 0.999, the diameter of each coin is 38.61 mm, the weight of each coin is 28.28 grams, Year of Minting is 2020, and the selling price is OMR25 for the single coin and OMR50 for the set. However, the prices are subject to change in accordance with the variations in the prices of silver in the international market.

It may be noted that these commemorative coins are legal tenders for their face value and are available for purchase from Central Bank of Oman starting from November 29.
