be’ah signs agreement with Nakheel Oman Development Company for green waste recycling

Muscat: The Oman Environmental Services Holding Company- be’ah has signed a usufruct agreement with Nakheel Oman Development Company for the recycling and treatment of green waste collected at Barka Engineered Landfill.
This comes within the framework of both parties to achieve sustainable development goals and develop the overall circular economy objectives by retrieving the value from this type of waste.
The agreement was signed by Eng. Tariq bin Ali Al Amri, be’ah’s CEO, and Ali bin Said Al Uraimi, Nakheel Oman’s general manager. A number of representatives from the two companies also attended the signing ceremony.
Eng. Tariq bin Ali Al Amri said in a statement, “We are pleased to announce this partnership with Nakheel Oman, which will contribute to the sustainable utilization of resources and promote the principles of the circular economy through the recycling of green waste to produce commercially valuable products that would support the national economy and conserve the environment of our beautiful Oman.”
On the other side, Ali bin Said Al Uraimi quoted, “At Nakheel Oman, we have adopted a circular economy business model that is committed to utilising the products and by-products of the Date Palm Tree and general green waste. In pursuit of the same, the Company have entered a collaboration with be’ah to retrieve the value from the green waste received at be’ah’s  Barka Landfill and produce pelleted animal feed utilizing green waste and dates. The green waste supply from be’ah will be directed to Nakheel’s Animal Feed Plant at Barka with an expected daily supply of 100 tonnes achieving an annual production capacity of 48,000 MT during phase one of the project. The project is expected to commence commercial activities by 2022.”
It is noteworthy that Nakheel Oman was founded by the Diwan of Royal Court (represented by the Directorate General of Million Date Palm Plantation Project) and Oman National Investments Development Company “Tanmia”, to become the Sultanate’s flagship and one of the world largest Date Palm products and by-products producer. Nakheel aims to invest in date palm, healthy food and sustainable agriculture to produce better food for a better life in a better world.
