Labor recruitment office owner fined and sent to prison for misdemeanor in Oman

Muscat: The Court of First Instance in Seeb recently issued a court ruling against a labor recruitment office that sentenced a conviction and imprisonment with financial fines for violating the Consumer Protection Law issued by Royal Decree No. 66/2014.

A statement issued online by Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), said: "Due to the administration receiving a large number of consumer complaints against a manpower recruitment office where consumers reported that they had contracted with the office, but the office violated contracts with them to bring in manpower during the agreed period or in terms of specifications and conditions as agreed upon."

"Accordingly, the administration took its turn to take all the measures in force in such cases and the office did not respond to it and the complaints lodged against it continued due to its lack of commitment to transparency and credibility with consumers, and due to its violation of the Consumer Protection Law in Article (23)."

"The administration referred the complaints to the public prosecution which took the necessary measures in view of the repeated complaints."

"Accordingly, the Public Prosecution referred the complaints to the competent court which issued a misdemeanor ruling for failure of the provider to provide the service to the consumer in a proper manner and in accordance with its nature, and it imposed a one-year prison sentence and a fine of OMR 2000 and obligated him to pay the expenses."
