Oman to reorient support for public services

Muscat: The Sultanate seeks to stop support for public services to some segments of society and to provide it to only specific groups, according to the medium-term fiscal balance plan 2020-2024.

The total cost of government support for electricity and water services reaches OMR 1 billion annually.

The Ministry of Finance said: "The initiative is to reorient public services support within the medium-term fiscal balance plan 2020-2024. It aims to direct support for public services to some segments of society instead of providing it to all."

"Where support is currently provided to all segments of society without exception, this has led to an increase in the government cost with the increase in the number of subscribers and the growth of consumption to reach nearly OMR 1 billion annually, " the ministry added.
