Public servant to face jail term for embezzlement in Oman

Muscat: A public servant, convicted of embezzlement has been sentenced to five years imprisonment and a fine equalling the amount embezzled, Public Prosecution (PP) said.

A statement issued online by the PP said, "Misappropriation of public or private funds in a public servant's possession or under his administration, is a crime that carries a penalty of five years imprisonment and a fine equal to the value of the embezzled money. If the embezzlement occurs by forgery or by using a forged document, the penalty is ten years imprisonment."

" In all cases, the employee is dismissed from his job and prohibited from assuming absolute public positions" the statement added.
