Hunting Gazelles in Oman to attract hefty fine, jail term

Muscat: A fine of OMR1,000 was imposed and six months’ of imprisonment was awarded to two persons by the Office for Conservation of Environment (OCE) at Royal court for killing an Arabian Gazelle

The OCE said in a statement: "The Criminal Court in Muscat convicted two defendants for killing an Arabian Gazelle with six months’ of imprisonment and a fine of OMR1,000 on each of them.

"The court also issued a decision to punish one of the defendants individually for threatening a public employee for doing his job with a month's imprisonment. He was also fined OMR500 for making a weapon without a licence and OMR300 for the possession of a firearm with telescope sights. The court decided to confiscate the weapons and the vehicle used in the crime, obligating the accused to pay the expenses."
