Muscat: Fifty per cent of the water pipeline project from Wadi Dayqah Dam to the Diem tank in Amerat has been completed, the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) announced
on Monday.
The pipeline project is 117 kilometres (km) long, including two main lines and other sub-lines. PAEW also said work is currently underway on the linkage project between the new Quriyat desalination plant and the Wadi Dayqah Dam.
It said the 117 km-long Wadi Dayqah Dam to Amerat, also includes a major pumping station with a capacity of 200 mega litres per day.
The first main line is about 15 km in length, with a pipe of size 1200 millimetres (mm) starting from the water purification plant near the Wadi Dayqah dam and ending at Pumping Station 2 in Quriyat, a spokesperson for PAEW said.
The second main water line is about 35 km in length, with a 1600 mm pipe to be used for connecting Pumping Station number 2 to Diem water tank in Amerat.
The project also includes the mobilisation of a water tankers station next to Pumping Station 2.
PAEW is also implementing a 25 km water network for the port of Duqm. This project is being jointly managed by PAEW and the Duqm Special Economic Zone Authority.
A local company had begun work on the project at the beginning of April 2015 and is expected to finish the project during the first quarter of 2017.
