Muscat: Expatriates who used to store and sell chewing tobacco mixed with calcium oxide (commonly known as quicklime / lime) and cigarettes were arrested by the judicial control personnel of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection in Muscat Governorate in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
The suspects had stored a huge consignment of chewing tobacco and cigarettes in 20,300 bags in one of the houses in the Wilayat of Muttrah.
The types of tobacco and other items found did not conform to the specifications of the country.
The storage and sale of such tobacco and cigarettes violated the Decision No. 256/2015 on prohibition of trading in chewing tobacco and article (7) of the Consumer Protection Law issued by Royal Decree No. 66/2014.
The Public Authority for Consumer Protection, in coordination with the department concerned, has taken the legal action against the suspects.
Five arrested for leaving Oman illegally
Khasab: Five Asian nationals of Al Harf area who attempted to illegally leave the Sultanate by sea to a neighbouring country were arrested by the Inquiries and criminal investigations department in the Governorate of Musandam and the Coast Guard Police Station in Musandam.
The suspects were referred to the Public Prosecution for further action.
