Muscat: The tropical weather condition along the Indian coasts has affected the transport and shipment of goods which has led to the shortage of onions in the Al Mawaleh Central Vegetables and Fruit Market.
The Ministry of Agriculture , Fisheries and Water Resources has formed a field team to urgently discuss with the management of Al Mawaleh Central Vegetables and Fruit Market and vendors to seek ways to meet the demand of onions.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is working in coordination with the exporters and agricultural outlets at Al Wajaja Border Post, Sohar Port, Sohar Central Market and the Directorate General of Customs for facilitating the movement of trucks for direct supply to the market.
2,200 tonnes
The Ministry’s efforts have ensured 2,200 tonnes of Indian, Pakistani, Iranian and Egyptian onions which has led to stability in the availability of onions in the local market. A total of 1,700 tonnes of onions are expected to arrive during the upcoming days.
