Royal patronage helped in controlling COVID-19 spread: Minister of Interior

Muscat: The Royal patronage given by His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik had a great impact on the accomplishment of desired objectives of the Supreme Committee tasked to contain the spread of COVID-19, said Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior, and the Chairman of the Supreme Committee.
The Minister of Interior said that he and members of the committee are honoured to express their gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik for the Royal patronage given to them for the tasks of the Supreme Committee on Covid-19 control.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), the Minister pointed out that, after the end of enforcement of its decision to ban movement at night, the committee now takes its decisions in accordance with specific well-studied data submitted to the panel by the specialised parties across different domains and sectors.
The prime aim of the decisions is to protect individuals and the community against COVID-19 disease and alleviate its negative impacts, the Minister said.
He added that the purpose of the lockdown between governorates and prohibiting night-time movement was to limit gatherings, particularly during Eid Al Adha period, which provide conditions for the spread of infection among people.
The Minister of Interior also thanked all members of society and commended their commitment during the periods of lockdown between governorates and ban on night time movement.
This commitment, he said, proves Omani society’s great discipline and awareness of the significance of elevating supreme social and national interests above all other considerations.
The Minister reaffirmed that members of Omani society have become more adherent and dedicated to measures for prevention of COVID-19. This accomplishment, he said, constitutes a successful approach to live with the virus in a safe manner.
At the conclusion of his statement, Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal, Minister of Interior, addressed a message of thanks and appreciation to the Sultan’s Armed Forces and Royal Oman Police for their remarkable efforts in executing the decisions. He also hailed the commendable efforts of all health workers in combating the pandemic, noting that these efforts will have a positive effect in curbing the spread of the virus and alleviating its different impacts.
