Omani designers to showcase creationsat Omani Women’s Fashion Trends event

Muscat: Omani Women’s Fashion Trends (OWFT) event is due to take place on Saturday, May 21 at Hotel Muscat Holiday in Al Khuwair, where Her Highness Sayyida Basma Al Said will be attendance as the guest of honour.
The show is being organised by events management firm Light and Shadow Enterprises, and will showcase striking fashion collections from three Omani designers Hala Al Maamari, Huda Anwar Al Sabbagh and Salha Al Farsi and a Vivat jewellery collection by Shruti Chowdhary and her partner Devangee Ganatra.
Al Sabbagh said, “I am passionate about creating new fashion trends that result in women wearing elegant and classy outfits. I started this as a hobby and have now grown up designing for fashion loving women. It’s true that I have never taken an academic fashion designing course, but this did not stop me from finding ways to improve my designing skills. I had participated in the Oman Designers Forum organised by Hala Trading Co. in May 2015 and presented a summer collection.”
“When it comes to styling your accessories, ladies less is more. Buy statement pieces of jewellery, but don’t wear them all together and look like a Christmas tree! Let the focus be on one or a maximum of two pieces at a time. Clean, well cut silhouettes are classic. Also, it’s always better to invest in good material and stitching than worrying about cost because the fall of every outfit is accentuated with clean cuts and of course a statement necklace or cuff,” said Chowdhary.
Al Mamari added, “My advice to the youth is to keep it classic and simple. Less can be more, but it still needs to retain the ethnicity of our culture.”
Al Farsi said,” I started my career as a model and then ventured into doing make up. Being around and working so closely with fashion designers I felt inspired and then started following fashion worldwide and slowly but surely knew that is what I wanted to make a career out of and I’m blessed to be a designer myself today.”
Speaking about their signature fashion item. Al Maamari said, “For me, a long flowing garment, which accentuates femininity is a signature item. My designs are all handcrafted with a lot of attention to detail and I definitely
feel that’s how it projects my signature work.”
While Chowdhary said, “My signature item would definitely be an accessory. I firmly believe jewellery can make or break your outfit. Choosing the right piece is imperative so I love my strings of pearls because they are evergreen and yet I also love my statement necklaces which add that glamour and a fun element to one’s outfits.”
