What Is It?
While we know it as spring roll, Lumpia, isn’t just an ordinary spring roll. It is freshly made with lot of precision and care and is the most celebrated dish in the Philippines made on special occasions. Originally from China, these rolls are eaten both fried and fresh in several other parts of the world, especially in the Southeast Asian countries. Lumpiyang Sariwa or fresh spring roll consist of minced coconut heart, flaked chicken, crushed peanuts, sweet potato, and turnip, wrapped in lettuce leaf and egg crêpe. It is served with a spicy sauce made of chicken stock, crushed roasted peanuts and fresh garlic. In Philippines it is served with banana ketchup.
Also Try
Apart from lumpia, there are lots of dishes to try at Chowking, from beef teriyaki-topped rice and Chowking beef bulgogi, to Chowking charbroiled chicken served with garlic rice or egg rice.
Try chicken siomai, a traditional Chinese dim sum served either steamed or fried with famous Chowking chilli sauce. Chowking Nasi Goreng Special, an Indonesian-style fried rice with grilled chicken, is worth a try.
What’s Special
Here in Oman, while Lumpia is available in most of the authentic Filipino restaurants, the ones available at Chowking at Muscat City Centre and Qurum City Centre are my favourite.
