Millennium Resort, Muscat Triathlon Club all set to host inaugural Triathlon

Muscat: The Millennium Resort Musannah, in association Muscat Triathlon Club (MTC) and in partnership with Tri.ME, the Oman based events Co-cordination Company, will organise the inaugural Millennium Triathlon on October 7.
Revealing the details of the event at a press conference on Monday, Christoph Schleissing, General Manager of the Millennium Resort Mussanah, said: “Millennium Triathlon is an exciting new fixture for Oman’s annual sporting calendar, the event has already attracted significant attention from the worldwide triathlon community and, in addition to registrations from Oman, has received entries from Bahrain, Kuwait, the UK, USA and Spain.”
The highly-anticipated competition will take advantage of the resort’s outstanding world-class sporting facilities, purpose built to meet the highest international standards for the 2010 Asian Beach Games.
Christoph Schleissing added: “In addition to offering a world-class hotel, dining, and leisure experience, the Millennium Resort was designed as a top-flight sporting hub with extensive facilities that meet the requirements of elite athletes. Indeed, as well as being the venue for the highly successful 2nd Asian Beach Games in 2010, it has also been our pleasure to host major international events including the FIFA Asian Beach Soccer World Cup Qualifiers 2011, 2013 Laser World Championships, Tour of Oman 2015, Oman Bike Week 2015, and the inaugural Oman International Dragon Boat Festival 2015, along with popular local competitions such as the second leg of the Muscat Triathlon Club’s Hotel Series 2014.”
“Building on these strong credentials, it is our pleasure to share the immense possibilities of the Millennium Resort as we invite local, regional and international athletes to take part in our inaugural triathlon.”
Two categories
Giving further details of the event, he said: “With a firm commitment to making sport available to athletes of all levels and in nurturing new talent, the Millennium Triathlon will offer two courses, Olympic and Sprint. The Olympic course is longer and designed for seasoned triathletes and the Sprint option is for those who prefer to test their skills on shorter distances.”
The competition will begin at the resort’s Event plaza with the swim component accommodated in the tranquil waters of the resort’s man-made marina where race kayaks and large sighting buoys will be positioned to support competitors.
The cycling race will take place on a cordoned off section of a dual carriageway under the watchful eyes of marshals and the Royal Oman Police, while the run will be held within the hotel grounds on a course with a reputation for speed.
“Support stations and transition points will be fully manned and equipped,” Schleissing assured. The final date for registering entries for the event, which is limited to 80 participants, is September 30.
Expecting the event to be a great success, Schleissing said: “While we fully expect the Millennium Triathlon to be a highly competitive event, we know from experience it will be filled with great sportsmanship, team spirit, and fun. After the action, when it’s time to relax, unwind, and talk over the thrills of the day, we invite participants and their supporters to explore the Millennium Resort’s outstanding amenities.”
