ROP gears up ahead of tropical storm

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has geared up to deal with the upcoming tropical storm and has advised the citizens and residents to adhere to safety measures.

A statement issued online by ROP said, "The Royal Oman Police has confirmed its readiness to deal with the tropical storm in the Arabian Sea by setting up deployment plans and presence in all locations which are expected to be affected by the weather. Also, arrangements have been made to achieve a rapid response and immediate handling of all events, to provide aid, to provide assistance and rescue to all who request it and prevent access to dangerous places. Additionally, roads and places near water bodies will be closely monitored."

"The operations department of provincial police commands that are expected to be affected by the weather conditions are prepared to play their role in receiving reports and coordinating with government and private agencies to restore basic services and to unify efforts through the Emergency Cases Management Center at the Sultanate's governorates police headquarters."

"The ROP called on citizens and residents to adhere to safety measures during the tropical storm, follow instructions and cooperate with police officers deployed at various locations. Individuals are also expected to abide by the decisions of the Supreme Committee dealing with COVID-19 to avoid the transmission of infection, as well as avoid movement during the evening period."

"The ROP has called for following up on the weather bulletins issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology through various media platforms." "Stop the vehicle in a place that may be safe from damage, and keep manual lamps, batteries and a battery-powered radio, as it may be the available means of communication in the event of a power failure."

"The police emphasized the importance of staying at home during heavy rains and storms, avoid movement and do not cross the valleys even if the water level is low. Do not approach any electricity poles or electric wires."

"In the event of any danger, call the ROP Operations number (9999) for help. While waiting for help, please wait in a safe place until the rescue teams arrive. After the rainfall stops, carefully move around and avoiding entering water bodies. Watch over the children and keep them away from any dangerous places such as slopes. Do not let children venture out for a swim without any supervision."

"Also, seafarers and fishermen must stay away from the sea during such weather, move their boats to a safe place until wait until the weather conditions calm down. Stay updated with weather bulletins issued by the competent authorities about any developments."
