Court of Appeal sentences employee to 10 years in prison

Muscat: The Criminal Department at the Court of Appeals sentenced a public employee to ten years in prison and imposed a fine of more than OMR 1,050,000 for embezzlement and money laundering crimes.

Public Prosecution (PP) said in a statement, "The Criminal Department at the Court of Appeals found the accused guilty of embezzlement and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of OMR 1,204,245 with the obligation to pay a fine equivalent to the amount embezzled."

"The court also convicted him for money-laundering. He has been additionally sentenced to five years imprisonment and was fined OMR 50,000. Also, he has been dismissed from his job and has been deprived him of holding any public positions in the future and his seized funds have also been confiscated," PP added.
